About the press
Centipede Press is known for large-format, lavishly produced editions — frequently horror, weird fiction and science fiction, alongside literary and art titles. Production values are high: heavy paper, full-colour art, sewn bindings and substantial enclosures.
Runs are deliberately low-volume and titles go out of print quickly, so a Centipede edition that was affordable at issue can become difficult to find in short order. Much of the collecting therefore happens after a title has sold out.
What makes these editions collectible
The draw is scale and scarcity: these are physically imposing books in genuinely small runs, often signed and numbered, with deluxe states that can be very small indeed. Out-of-print status arrives fast, which sustains secondary demand.
Condition is harder to maintain on oversized books — corners and spine ends take stress, and the heavy enclosures can scuff. A Fine copy with a clean slipcase or traycase is meaningfully scarcer than the limitation alone suggests.

- Signed / Numbered
The main collectible state — signed and individually numbered, usually slipcased.
- Deluxe / Lettered
A much smaller special state with a more elaborate binding and enclosure (often a traycase). Scarce.
What to check before you buy
- Confirm the state and number, and that the signature(s) are present.
- Inspect corners, spine ends and the enclosure closely — oversized books show handling more readily.
- Check that any extra volume, portfolio or print issued with a deluxe state is included.
- Given fast sell-outs, verify the title is genuinely out of print before assuming scarcity, and weigh thin comparable data with care.
