What makes a sale here trustworthy
Four things carry the trust, and each is a working part of the product rather than a promise on a banner.
A census of every copy
Every edition has one canonical page: its states, limitation sizes, enclosures, and the copies known to be in the world.
You can see what a Numbered copy of a title is, what a Lettered copy is, and what each is asking right now — the thing a scattered Facebook group structurally cannot show you. The page is useful with no other users on the site, because it is a reference, not a storefront.
Evidence, not adjectives
A listing is graded component by component — book, jacket, slipcase, traycase — each on the trade ladder, each photographed.
The enclosure is the most damage-prone part and usually the only downgrade, so it gets its own grade and its own photographs. Disclosing a flaw is frictionless and thanked, never penalized. The limitation page, showing the actual copy number, is required — it ties the listing to a specific copy.
A memory for each copy
The per-copy registry keeps a pseudonymous history: when a copy was listed, how it was graded, how it was packed.
It quietly surfaces two signals you benefit from: a component that was last seen graded lower than it is now, and the same copy number listed live by two sellers at once. Where a copy has no history yet, the page says so plainly — absence of history is not proof of condition.
Packing as the brand
A published, numbered packing standard — and a “Packs to Standard” badge a seller earns by shipping to it.
The standard is the dispute baseline and the insurance precondition. A packing photo, taken before the parcel is sealed, is written into the copy's registry — the seller's protection and the buyer's.
We never touch your money
Solander is non-custodial. There is no balance, no wallet, and no third-party holding account. When you claim a copy, you settle it yourself with the seller.
Pay the seller directly through PayPal Goods & Services — the only PayPal option with buyer Purchase Protection. Don’t use Friends & Family — it protects no one. Solander never touches your money.
One honest note for trade buyers: PayPal’s protection may not cover purchases intended for resale.
Goods & Services covers an item that never arrives or arrives significantly not as described, with the listing’s photographs and the copy registry standing as exactly the evidence a claim needs. That is the whole arrangement: your money goes to the seller, your protection comes from PayPal, and your evidence comes from the listing.
What Solander is not
It is worth being direct about the things we deliberately do not do, and what we do instead.
We never hold your money. There is no balance and no third-party holding account. You pay the seller directly through PayPal Goods & Services, the only PayPal option with buyer Purchase Protection.
We make no authentication claim. The real risks here are condition and transit, so we built for those: per-component evidence, a registry, and a packing standard.
We never store a final sale price. You see the current asking prices of live copies and clearly sourced external realized points — facts, plainly labeled, never a fabricated number.
PayPal adjudicates money; we adjudicate reputation. When something goes wrong, we coach you to the PayPal Goods & Services claim and line up your evidence for it.
The box is the brand
Solander takes its name from the archival clamshell box that houses exactly these objects. The packing standard is the published, numbered doctrine for getting a copy from one collector to another intact — and it is the baseline every dispute is measured against.
